Rutland Spring Half Marathon

On Sunday 2nd April 30 Werrington Joggers  joined 517 other runners and 40 walkers for W J Championships round 2. Weather was as good as could be expected for early spring.  Bag drop was right next to the start, which was on time so we did not have to stand around in running kit for too long before starting.

The course starts with some quite steep hills, then a gently rolling few miles next to the main Stamford Road before turning left at about 3 miles on to the Old Stamford Road and the peninsular.  After another 1 ½ miles, the course then bears left for the real crux of the race.  At half way there is a turn round a traffic cone, providing a good chance to size up the runners just ahead and just behind.  At nine miles there is a well marshalled crossing of the Old Stamford Road before doing the first four miles again but in reverse.  Unsurprisingly, the initial hills look like the North Face of the Eiger!

Overall the event was well organised and marshalled
