05/02/2019 Standards and Records - Change to Qualifying Race Rules

Dear Members

At the most recent Committee meeting it was decided, in light of the number of multi-terrain races being promoted this year, to change the rules of the club with regard to Standards and Records. Until now to qualify as an acceptable race the course had to hold a Certified Accurate certificate issued by the Association of UK Course Measurers (http://aukcm.org.uk/).

The ACM issue two types of certificate;

"Certified Accurate"

This certifies a race as being both accurately measured, and a Road Race (not more than 10% unsealed road surface as defined by the IAAF)

"Registered Distance"

This certifies a race as being accurately measured, but including more than 10% unsealed surface.

Until this decision Werrington Joggers, being a road running club, only accepted races that were Certified Accurate (with the exception of Rutland and Peterborough Parkruns and the Werrington Guesstimate). The Committee have decided with immediate effect to accept claims for races taking place on courses covered by the Registered Distance certificate as well. As a consequence many of the races promoted for Nene Park will now be acceptable for Standards and Records. This decision is not retrospective and no claims can be made for Registered Distance races prior to 04th Feb 2019. The websites will be changed in due course to reflect this

Club Social Event - Spamalot

It’s time to book your seats for the popular annual Werrington Joggers social event – the trip to the Key Theatre!

This year it’s Monty Python’s SPAMALOT, on Friday 29 March 2019 at 7.30pm, performed by Westwood Musical Society and featuring two of our club members – Sandy Prodrick and Rod McDonald.

As in previous years George and Margaret Prodrick are kindly putting on their after-show chilli and pizza party.

The Friday night is expected to be a sell-out performance so book your tickets now – it promises to be a fun evening.

Tickets are £16 each.

Rod will arrange for ticket sales so everyone can sit together on the night - please see Rod at Tuesday club night or Sunday Run. More details can be found by emailing webmaster@werringtonjoggers.co.uk

New runners are very welcome and we have a team of volunteers to help you in your first few weeks with the club whether you are a complete running novice or an experienced veteran. Our volunteer rota can be found here.

Sunday Runs

We regularly meet on a Sunday for a cross country run. These are social events and can vary between 6 and 12 miles, often with alternative shorter routes. Very often muddy - trail shoes are recommended if you have any - and run from local village halls where possible.

Sunday Run - Nassington

Many Sunday Runs have more than one distance alternative and can vary in terrain. Please see the Diary for more details of times, locations and formats. Sunday Runs are an excellent way to get to know your fellow runners and our tradition of "looping back" to keep groups together ensures that no-one is left running on their own or will get lost. Please support the run hosts who plan and arrange the runs and spend a Sunday morning in the fresh air on some of our local countryside routes.

The club diary has details of the meeting points and start times of the runs. Start times are prompt. The runs are graded "A" - up to 10m fairly flat, "B" - 10-11m with hills, "C" 11m+ with hills and mud.

Parkrun

Many members take part in the regular Peterborough parkrun and a list of the latest results for the consolidated Werrington Joggers members can be found by clicking here. This is a measured 5km time trial open to the general public every Saturday morning at Ferry Meadows country park at 9am, and elsewhere as an unmeasured 5km run. these are not races and no entry fee is required but you must pre-register on the  web site.
