Message from Race Director
First of all thank you for signing up to help marshal the Werrington 3K / 5K event on Wednesday 3 August - without your support this event could not take place, so I am very grateful to you.
As you know this event is crucial to the clubs finances as we take a share of the GP 5K Series profit after costs, which helps to maintain our subscription levels at a current levels.
This is my first time as Race Director so it has been quite a learning curve, but with your support I am sure we can make this event a success.
So - the plan is this :
4pm onwards - set up the finish area / funnel with stakes and tape on Werrington Sports Field - thanks to Andy Scott who has already offered to help with the set up - I'll need a couple more volunteers to help set up, and also to 'guard' the area up until race time later in the day. Please let me know if you are able to help with the set up.
6 -6.30pm marshals and officials to report to Race HQ at Ploughman PH to collect bibs and tape and get instructions from Ann Wood ( Lead Marshal) so they can be at their posts before the junior race starts at 7pm. Please ensure you have made contact with Ann on the night before you go to your marshal point so she can tick you off her list.
NB We will set up Race HQ OUTSIDE the pub in the fenced off 'beer garden' area to the left of the pub.
At the end of the event it would be appreciated if marshals could help clear the route by bringing any signage back to Race HQ and dispose of any tape in waste bins.
There will also be bin bags of used drink cups which would be best disposed of if marshals each took one bag home and put it in their own domestic wheelie bin.
Ann - I'll let you decide how to assign the marshals who are not already allocated specific roles.
If you are assigned to the barriers off Goodwin Walk - which are a potential hazard - please arrange to have tools available to remove the barriers that can be moved - unfortunately some of the barriers have been cemented in place and are not going anywhere. I will arrange for 'hazard' signs to be available for this area , and marshals will need to give verbal warnings to the runners also.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, or indeed suggestions to ensure a smooth operation.
Best regards
Rod McDonald

17/07/2022 | URGENT message - Club night Tuesday 19 July Cancelled |
Due to the extreme temperatures predicted ( 40°+ ) for Tuesday 19 July I have decided to cancel Junior and Senior club night.
This is in line with government guidelines that sport shouldn't be being undertaken in such temperatures.
I realise that that the third round of the junior one mile handicap series is scheduled for that evening, and I am sorry for any inconvenience, but Juniors safety and wellbeing must come first.
Announcements:
Wed 20 July 5K series Race 3 Ferry Meadows (Jnr 7pm) (Snr 7.30pm) - enter on line

Please be aware that due to the temporary closure of the Werrington Sports Centre the club will be meeting at the Community Room of the Ploughman, next to Tesco. This room is through the door on the right as you enter the main entrance.
The Ploughman is at 1 Staniland Way, Werrington, Peterborough, PE4 6NA.
To avoid congestion and to ensure Juniors can be collected at the end of their session, please can Senior members use the front of the commuity room, and Juniors the rear of the room, furthest from the entrance door.
Please can all avoid congregating at the community room door or at the outside main entrance so that the customers for the bar can freely access it.
New runners are very welcome and we have a team of volunteers to help you in your first few weeks with the club whether you are a complete running novice or an experienced veteran. Our volunteer rota can be found here.
For all news, events and coaching for our Junior Section, please click Werrington Joggers Junior Site.
Do you enjoy running? Would you like to join a sports club? Are you worried about keeping fit ? Are you looking for a way to complete your Duke of Edinburgh Physical?
Werrington Joggers run a Junior Section for children aged 9-16. We meet on Tuesday evenings between 6pm – 7pm at the Werrington Sports Centre.
Your children will receive instruction from qualified coaches, become part of a growing running community within Peterborough and have access to road, cross country and track events.
Annual subscription is only £15 and will be refunded if after 2 weeks your child does not wish to continue.
Induction evenings take place regularly during the year and the next induction dates can be found on the Junior Introduction page here
During the induction we will cover a range of topics such as when to eat, injuries, clothing, competition and behaviour.
We hope you will consider joining our friendly local club and we look forward to seeing you and your children at our next induction.
For any further information prior to the next Induction evening please contact either Tim Cook (07793 906746) or Louise Richardson (07732 407070) otherwise you are most welcome to simply turn up with your child on the next date.
We regularly meet on a Sunday for a cross country run. These are social events and can vary between 6 and 12 miles, often with alternative shorter routes. Very often muddy - trail shoes are recommended if you have any - and run from local village halls where possible.
Sunday Run - Nassington
Many Sunday Runs have more than one distance alternative and can vary in terrain. Please see the Diary for more details of times, locations and formats. Sunday Runs are an excellent way to get to know your fellow runners and our tradition of "looping back" to keep groups together ensures that no-one is left running on their own or will get lost. Please support the run hosts who plan and arrange the runs and spend a Sunday morning in the fresh air on some of our local countryside routes.
The club diary has details of the meeting points and start times of the runs. Start times are prompt. The runs have a guide to distance and difficulty.
Many members take part in the regular Peterborough parkrun and a list of the latest results for the consolidated Werrington Joggers members can be found by clicking here. This is a measured 5km time trial open to the general public every Saturday morning at Ferry Meadows country park at 9am, and elsewhere as an unmeasured 5km run. these are not races and no entry fee is required but you must pre-register on the web site.
